I’m convinced that one lie believed can sneak into our minds, set up camp, and eventually create destruction in our lives. Our enemy is constantly pumping lies into the sound waves, hoping we will accept them as truth so that he can get a foot hold in our minds.
I felt an urgency in my spirit today to remind us all to really be careful about what we allow into our homes and to fill our minds. Because the truth is, satan doesn’t show up with a bag of lies and announce it to us, “Hey guys I’m here with a bunch of lies. Basically I want to destroy your life and take everything from you. I want to leave you broke, destitute, addicted to drugs, pornography, alcohol, etc and eventually take your life.” No, he doesn’t use that tactic. It would be nice if he did, we could detect the lies a lot quicker.
Instead he goes for the distortion and distraction technique. It looks more like this:
“Hey, I know you believe the Bible and love Jesus and all of that, but it’s ok to watch entertainment that’s questionable. I mean it’s just pretend anyway. There’s nothing else to watch so you might as well.”
That doesn’t make the behavior seem like a big deal to us then. It seems normal. And let me just say, you personally know what crosses the line and what doesn’t for you. I’m not trying to tell you what the line is, but the Holy Spirit and you know what it is and He will tell you.
But even more so than this tactic, there’s an even darker, more sinister one that satan uses. It’s lies masquerading as truth. I’m not one to shout something from the mountain tops that I see a public figure doing that doesn’t sit well with my spirit, but when I see hordes of people jumping off the cliff with said person, I start to get a little unnerved.
I was just reading today in 1 Corinthians chapter 3, and Paul was settling some disputes that rose up. The people there had fallen into the trap of following a public figure instead of God. Paul told them to stop following Apollos or himself, they were only mere men. He pointed them back to God.
That’s what I see a lot of Christians doing now. Jumping on someone’s band wagon that seems to be going somewhere cool and fun. Every time I see it something in my spirit feels grieved. This cannot be right. We aren’t meant to follow a person; we are meant to be led by the Spirit of God into all truth. I’m not saying you can’t support a person’s ministry and of course receive encouragement from them, but be really careful how far that goes!
I realize I may get some kickback from this blog, but I’m willing to endure a little persecution for what I believe God is saying. Not everything we read or hear is truth, EVEN when it is coming from a pastor, spiritual leader or a charismatic and positive Christian entrepreneur.
Ask the Holy Spirit to show YOU what is truth in His word and to confirm it. Just because someone says something well doesn’t mean it lines up with the word of God.
Yikes I’ve done it now, right??? I hope we are still friends ya’ll 🙂 I only say these things to re-align our eyes on Jesus solely and His word as the authority of truth.
Just be careful friends. That’s all I’m saying.
I’ll leave you with this:
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. I John 4:1-3
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. II Peter 2:1
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions….. II Timothy 4:3
