There is an epidemic sweeping our nation, everybody wants something for nothing. The land of the free and the home of the brave has now become the land of the entitled and the home of the lazy. Harsh words right? Take weight loss for example, which is a multi-billion dollar industry. Most of the industry thrives on promising weight loss by taking a pill or a surgery. Most of this mega industry does not make money by teaching people how to correct their habits that led to the obesity, but rather they promise quick fix pills to circumvent the real issue at hand so that profits can continue. Catering to the laziness of our culture, these greedy businesses are ever eager to promote false claims and bogus products.
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL
For many years, I was more than willing to throw my hard earned money away in an attempt to shed all of my unwanted pounds. I tried every pill, potion, magic spell and diet practically known to the civilized world. However, what I never really tried consistently was HARD WORK. Yes, that’s right folks, it takes consistent, hard work to lose weight. You have to keep doing the right thing over and over and over and over……..you get the point. And I’m happy to say that I have lost right at 25 lbs over the past year and half because I’ve been pretty consistent with my workout & eating habits. Was it easy?? Of course not! Was it worth it?? Of course it was!
The same muddled “take the easy way out” philosophy doesn’t just creep into our weight loss efforts; it is actually a part of our existence. For some ridiculous reason, we believe that we can reap what we did not sow. That somehow if we wish hard enough for something in our lives we will eventually get it. I think we have sung “When You Wish Upon a Star” a few too many times. It has a nice melody but it’s absolutely NOT TRUE! I mean really, I can have anything my heart desires if I just wish upon a star?? We have made reaching a goal or dream some kind of mystical thing that will happen if we just believe it will happen. We won’t have to work for it or anything, just wishing it is enough to bring it into existence. WHAT A JOKE!!! Can you see the idiocy of this kind of behavior? I can say that because I was one of the idiots that lived this way for years.
THE TRUTH IS………
The truth is if you want to achieve something different or great with your life, you gotta work it. Yep, that 4 letter word…WORK. Because I am such a nerd at heart, I decided to create an acronym for WORK.
W- Wishing is not enough. You need to put the time and effort in to achieve your goal. God is more than willing to help you, provided your goal lines up with His will of course. But I must say, He will not do what you can do. Set some goals and do the work.
O- Offer your best. When it comes to reaching a dream or goal, you are going to have to offer your best. It is going to cost you something and it won’t be easy. Jesus paid the price for our salvation but our ministries and/or dreams won’t be free. Offering your best is the only way to achieve greatness.
R- Reach for it. Accomplishing something amazing will stretch you. Let it stretch you. Don’t quit just because it’s hard but reach harder for it. Double up your efforts when you want to quit. Don’t settle for the easy way out or a status quo result. Map out a path and start walking it, even it takes a really long time. Anything of value worth having is worth the reach that It will require.
K- Keep doing it every day. This is quite possibly the most difficult piece of the puzzle, the consistency struggle. Change truly only occurs when we consistently make the same choice over and over, everyday. We have to retrain our brain and establish new neurological pathways that have never been used before. These small changes eventually become habits. The new habits create the foundation we need to create the life we want.
A real revelation to some people is that God wants to build something with them. He is not just interested in snapping His fingers and having instant manifestation. He is in the business of partnering WITH us to do great things in the earth. Sure He could do it all by Himself but he chooses us as business partners. Honestly, it’s a privilege, and that’s why we need to do our part and WORK IT. That is why we need to give our best, reach for the greatness every single day.
