I’ve spent most of my life feeling not good enough. When the world held up the measuring stick of talent, beauty or brains, I could never quite measure up. I always had this underlying feeling of inadequacy.

That feeling made me do silly things like enter talent competitions. I thought if I could win, or place high enough, then maybe I mattered. Somehow my existence felt justified. What a sad way to live.

Yet many of us live this way. Feeling like we need to beg God for crumbs from His table when He has clearly already invited us to sit with Him at the feast. There are no crumbs for the children of God; with Jesus we get a five course meal.

What’s keeping you from sitting at the table? Do you feel like you aren’t good enough? That’s a lie that the devil keeps telling you. He’s got it stuck on repeat in your head.

What if we decided not to listen to that voice anymore that constantly tells us we are damaged goods? What if we ignored the constant accusations of inadequacy long enough to accept Christ’s outstretched hand toward us. I hear Him saying,”Whosoever will come drink and eat with me. Feast on my love- the only love that satisfies. Come drink of the well of my affection and find rest for your soul.”

We can find the blessed contentment that we ache for- that the world can never give. It’s all found at the table of Jesus and the only thing stopping us from getting there are the distractions we allow to set up camp in our minds.

Listen to what God says here:

Come, all you who are thirsty,

come to the waters;

and you who have no money,

come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk

without money and without cost.

Why spend money on what is not bread,

and your labor on what does not satisfy?

Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,

and you will delight in the richest of fare.

Give ear and come to me;

listen, that you may live.

I will make an everlasting covenant with you,

my faithful love promised to David. Isaiah 55:1-3

Some thoughts about this passage that stuck out to me:

1) We don’t have to pay for it. He says to come buy food and drink, but without money. So who is going to pick up the tab??? He is! That’s right-He’s inviting you to a feast that He is paying for.

2) We can eat as much as we want. Yep that’s right….it’s an all you can eat buffet! Bring your stretchy pants! Because God is paying for it AND providing the food that means it will never run out. All we have to do is show up.

The problem that is holding us back so much of the time is that we believe we need to pay an admission fee and eat crumbs that fall off the table. We don’t truly realize that Jesus already paid for the meal and it’s HUGE! We no longer have to walk away hungry and unsatisfied. We no longer have to beg God to let us eat.

We have full access to the presence of God-the table-anytime we want. The veil that once separated us from interacting with God is destroyed and now we can come into the Holy of Holies. Yes, we are good enough now. Jesus took care of that!

If you have been feeling terrible about yourself now is the time to stop, take Christ’s hand and take your seat at the table. It’s time to feast on the love of our great God, who is looking and longing to receive you at His table.

Because yes, you are good enough!
